CFO - REIT - Charlotte, NC

Our client is the leading not-for-profit student housing organization in the US and has a matrixed, non-hierarchical management structure. The company's staff has decades of experience in higher-education residence development and management.
The Senior Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer (SVP/CFO) is a newly created position and s/he will be the seventh member of the SMT. Our successful candidate will participate in the development and implementation of the organization's overall business and finance strategies, and be the senior executive responsible for the financial solvency and sustainability of the company and the administration of all financial reporting policies and procedures. The SVP/CFO will work closely with the Board of Directors and its Audit and Governance/Compensation Committees.
The SVP/CFO will coordinate with the Treasurer to provide oversight for the accounting, audit, treasury, budget, and human resources staffs. Further, s/he will coordinate with the General Counsel and the Vice President for Facilities, to provide oversight for Information Technology (IT) and Real Estate project analysis and feasibility, respectively. Specifically the SVP/CFO will be:
oResponsible for managing the financial solvency and sustainability of the corporation, including cash-flow, revenues and expenses, and assets and liabilities. Prepare the long-term financial plans of the corporation in consultation with the Senior Management Team. Oversee the financial operations of the corporation as administered by the Treasurer and staff, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, credit, and other financial matters.
oResponsible for preparing and presenting the financial status of the corporation to President and the Board of Trustees, including analysis of the corporation's financial trends and potential financial challenges and opportunities facing the corporation.
oResponsible for assisting the President in evaluating the financial performance of the members of the Senior Management Team, including developing financial metrics for performance and methods of providing financial performance information to the Senior Management Team.
oOversee the timely and accurate preparation of all audited financial statements and IRS Form 990 filings and be a signatory on all representation letters as needed by the external auditors, U.S. Internal Revenue Service, lenders, and other third parties.
oEnsure that the corporation maintains consistent, secure and retrievable financial records systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
oParticipate in the creation and implementation of the evolving strategic plan.
oAssist the President in the formulation, analysis and execution of new debt and equity financing programs for funding of the aforementioned strategic plan which would include the expansion and/or acquisition of existing residences as well as the construction, acquisition or leasing of new facilities.
The SVP/CFO should be a hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work ina dynamic, mission-driven environment. S/He should possess strong oral,written, analytical and computer skills, a strong service mentality and a flexible inter-personal style with a commitment to implementing collaborative team efforts.
oS/He should possess a BS in Accounting and be a licensed CPA with 12 to 15 years of broad finance experience and audit expertise; and it would be desirable that this qualified individual also hold an advanced degree, preferably a MBA.
oS/He should have demonstrated excellence in finance, audit, accounting, budgeting, controls and compliance, cash management and IT for non-profit businesses including knowledge of matters involving 501(c)(3) status and unrelated business income issues.
Additional Preferred
oExperience working in the higher education and/or not-for-profit fields.
ooExperience in affordable multi-unit or student housing cost estimation, project construction budgets, and the preparation of feasibility analyses with quantifiable performance metrics and accompanying 10 year business projections.
oExperience in accounting and tax matters relating to the formation and operation of REITs and public-private partnerships.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
